New Music: Lakecia Benjamin “Retox”

Talented saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin released her debut album Retox today via Motéma Music. Blending jazz roots with soul and funk brings a modern sound to the native New Yorker’s first solo project. With features by Amy Fiddler, Maya Azucena and others, watch the video as Lakecia speaks on the making of Retox, and much much more.
If you’re in the New York City area, Lakecia holds her record release party tonight at Le Poisson Rouge at 10:30pm. Opening deejay set by Brooklyn’s own DJ Center.
Record store owner unknowingly buys J Dilla’s record collection

Jeff Bubeck is the guy who unknowingly bought a record collection that belonged to late hip-hop legend J Dilla. Years after his passing, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey confirmed the collection was indeed her son, James Yancey.
