Let Me Re-Introduce Myself
My name is ND McCray, I’m a writer, freelance journalist, New Media Journalism graduate student and editor/content creator of Unclouded By Ambition.com. I started the site over four years ago while living in my hometown of Houston, Texas. Since then, I’ve moved to Brooklyn, New York, and the site has morphed into an adventurous journey of music, film, travel, interviews and beyond.
Unclouded By Ambition came to me out of my love for the 1985 flick Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon. It’s the tale of a young man seeking his purpose in life, otherwise known as “the glow.” It’s totally cheesy, but a cult classic. I’ve probably seen the film at least 350 times; own it on VHS, DVD and iTunes. Got the soundtrack on vinyl too!
But for those who have never seen it, in the film–the main character Leroy says a line that has stuck with me for many years: “The secret awaits eyes unclouded by ambition, those who are bound by desire, see only that which can be held in their hands.”
I took that to mean, if you really want something out of life definitely be ambitious about it, but never lose sight of where you came from. Be respectful to everyone. Master your craft. Don’t be afraid of being different. Make a career out of something you absolutely love.
Thus, UncloudedByAmbition.com mixes my love for underground artists as well as the mainstream hit makers of the day. With that mentality I tend to share:
- Music downloads, videos and audio
- My favorite album reviews, singles and EPs
- Artist interviews as well as live show, theatre and some food reviews
- I also recently started a “SEVEN Questions With…” series where I interview an array of independent artists, including some well-known musicians
Bottom line: UBA is about sharing music. So if you have an EP or album you think I should listen to or possibly review, feel free to send a media kit (bio, EPK or download link) to acdjzfnd@yahoo.com.
